Since this blog site underwent a redesign last summer, I’ve meant to go back through its 1000+ entries to check for broken links and configuration errors.
I finally got around to it this week, working chronologically through a decade of past entries in a process akin to time travel.
Turns out, things are in pretty good shape, but along the way, I’ve come across several broken links to posts that appeared on websites that no longer exist.
So, in addition to tweaking layouts, I’ve been tracking down some of those missing posts in hopes of making them available once again.
Looking ahead, looking back.
One of those missing posts is an essay titled ” The Virtual Real.”
Originally written for an extinct blog series titled Awakenings, it deals with (among other things) the writing life, dancing on the ceiling, and the art of sharpening popsicle sticks.
First posted in August 2012, it has been unavailable since the Awakenings site went down a half-dozen years ago. Fortunately, there’s a copy of the text in my files. I’ll be posting it here tomorrow.
I’m currently tracking down some other missing documents, including a piece written for the Pennsylvania Literary Festival, a pair of mock interviews with characters from Veins, and an account of what happens when an American writer sits down to dinner with a Russian family in Soviet-era Leningrad. Thus, in the days ahead, this site will become a portal to postings from the past.
Care to join me?
Stop back tomorrow for “The Virtual Real.”
