HWA Pittsburgh:
Gearing Up for StokerCon® 2023

Last week I got the chance to hang with some of my favorite writers and aficionados of horror and dark fantasy when the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Horror Writers Association gathered at the Sheridan Inn at Station Square to tour the site of this year’s StokerCon®.

Above: Members of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Horror Writers Association at Station Square. Those in attendance were (from left to right) Michael McGovern, Gwendolyn Kiste, Nelson Pyles, Sara Tantlinger, Darcia Arnold, The 21st Century Scop, Thomas Gaffney, Michelle Renee Lane, Bridget Keown, Ben Rubin, Michael A. Arnzen, and Destiny Johnson. Also in attendance but not shown in the photo were Candace Nola, Ande Thomas, Frank Jason Oreto, and Douglas Gwilym.

Coordinated by HWA Pittsburgh Chapter co-chairs Sara Tantinger and Michael A. Arnzen, last week’s gathering gave members a chance to tour the facility in anticipation of what is looking to be one of the best StokerCons® ever.

The four-day event will include panel discussions, readings, pitch sessions, the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference, the Final Frame Short Horror Film Competition, Librarian’s Day, Guests of Honor, a dealer’s room, parties, signings, and more–all culminating with a gala presentation of the Bram Stoker Awards® on Saturday night.

This year the con runs June 15-18. Advance tickets for in-person attendance are still available at the StokerCon® website, and I have it on good authority that memberships for virtual attendance will be available soon.

One way or the other, you won’t want to miss this chance to join the celebration when HWA’s premiere event takes over the city of the living dead.

I’ll hope you see you there!
