\"\"Nightmare Cinema<\/em>\u2019s release schedule continues this month with its Japanese debut on July 19, complete with promotional art that incorporates elements of the US poster with striking details of its own.<\/p>\n

In place of the demon from Ryuhei Kitamura\u2019s \u201cMashit\u201d segment, the Japanese poster features the face of a sleeping woman, head cleaved above the eyes to serve as a bowl of cinematic nightmares. Spiraling up and out of her skull is a length of film displaying many of the images included in the US poster. Look closely, and you\u2019ll see Fred the welder from \u201cThe Thing in the Woods,\u201d Ron the janitor from \u201cThis Way to Egress,\u201d and Mr. Stitches from \u201cDead.\u201d Look to the right of the movie marquee, and you\u2019ll see the demon from \u201cMashit\u201d that dominates the poster for the American release.<\/p>\n

The design also includes a movie theater, though not the one from the film. Here, the Rialto\u2019s facade is replaced by a composite that includes the marque from the Comanche Drive-In (Buena Vista, Colorado) and the haunted fa\u00e7ade of the abandoned Filmtheater Cinema (Dresden, Germany) — an intriguing combination of images that reinforces the international aspect of Nightmare Cinema<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"\"But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the poster is the film’s Japanese title\u00a0\u30de\u30b9\u30bf\u30fc\u30ba\u30fb\u30aa\u30d6\u30fb\u30db\u30e9\u30fc. That translates as \u201cMasters of Horror,\u201d which just happens to be the title of the Mick Garris\u2019s anthology series that ran on Showtime from 2005-2007, the very series that paved the way for film\u00a0Nightmare Cinema<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Nightmare Cinema<\/em>\u00a0makes its Japanese debut this weekend on July 19.<\/p>\n

The film is currently available in the US via video on demand from iTunes<\/a>, Amazon<\/a>, and FandangoNow<\/a>. It releases on\u00a0DVD and Blu-Ray<\/a>\u00a0editions on September 3.<\/p>\n
