For their new anthology, the good people at Post-Mortem Press <\/a>have assembled an impressive lineup of writers who\u2019ve made careers probing the depths of human existence, with editor Eric Beebe challenging each to examine the intersection between science fiction and horror.<\/p>\n

The search for knowledge and understanding, what some folks like to call science, tends to create the biggest sense of unknown. We stare into the abyss, hoping to learn, to understand. But the abyss is a cold and uncaring muse.<\/em><\/p>\n

Harlan Ellison<\/a>.\u00a0His groundbreaking work on television\u2019s The Outer Limits<\/em> first introduced me to the wonders of sf-noir, and his legendary anthologies Dangerous Visions<\/em> and Again Dangerous Visions<\/em> got me thinking seriously about writing fiction. He\u2019s the winner of multiple Hugo, Nebula, and Edgar awards, and\u00a0is generally regarded as\u00a0one of the most influential writers in speculative fiction.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Michael A. Arnzen<\/a>. He\u2019s won four Bram Stoker Awards in multiple categories, starting with his first novel Grave Markings<\/em>, which launched the Dell Abyss line back in 1994.<\/p>\n

His pioneering work in the digital domain (you can read more about that in the essay \u201cChange Thy Shape<\/a>\u201d) makes him the perfect writer to explore the horrific effects of technology on our post-modern lives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gary A. Braunbeck<\/a>. He\u2019s one of the most honored horror writers of his generation, having won the Bram Stoker Awards an astounding six times since 2003. He is also the winner of the International Horror Guild and\u00a0Black Quill Awards, and the author of some magnificently dark, brooding stories of the human condition.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Tim Waggoner<\/a>. His story \u201cThe Men Upstairs\u201d\u00a0was a contender for last year\u2019s Shirley Jackson Award, but he\u2019s perhaps best known for his urban fantasy novels Nekropolis<\/em>, \u00a0Dead Streets<\/em>, and Dark War <\/em>\u00a0\u2013 all of which have recently been rereleased in a comprehensive omnibus titled Nekropolis Archives<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In a recent review, Publishers Weekly<\/em> praised Nekropolis <\/em>novels for presenting \u201ca complex, intricately crafted setting reminiscent of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter<\/em> universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jack Ketchum<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s the man Stephen King believes may be \u201cthe scariest guy in America.\u201d\u00a0 The author of over 20 novels and novellas, most recently The Woman<\/em> and I\u2019m not Sam<\/em>, he was named one of the genre\u2019s Grand Masters by HWA in 2011.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Also included in this anthology are new stories by Paul Anderson, Rose Blackthorn, C. Bryan Brown, Kenneth W. Cain, Brad Carter, Robert Essig, S.C. Hayden, KT Jayne , Jamie Lackey, Thomas Malafarina, Jessica McHugh, Matt Moore, Andrew Nienaber, Nelson W. Pyles, Jeyn Roberts, and Joseph Williams \u2013 some of the most exciting writers working the field today.<\/p>\n
