There\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nicholaskaufmann.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicholas Kaufmann<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mmdevoe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M. M. De Voe<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/rickbowes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rick Bowes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cith.org\/linda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linda Addison<\/a>, Gordon Linzner of <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceandtimemagazine.com\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Space and Time Magazine<\/em><\/a> (editor emeritus), Vaughne Hansen of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Virginia_Kidd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia Kidd Agency<\/a>, and Will and Meesh Horner of <a href=\"http:\/\/fantasistent.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fantasist Enterprises<\/a>. It\u2019s going to be a fun evening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Tom-Connair-and-Heather-Sedlak.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3377\" alt=\"Tom Connair and Heather Sedlak\" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Tom-Connair-and-Heather-Sedlak.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a>Some newer writers are also settling in, among them are Heather Sedlak and Tom Connair, MFA candidates from the graduate writing program at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.setonhill.edu\/academics\/graduate_programs\/fiction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seton Hill University<\/a>; Andrew Alford, who\u2019s made sales to <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceandtimemagazine.com\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Space and Time<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/midnightechomagazine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Midnight Echo<\/em><\/a>; and Nicholas Schwartz, a terrific young filmmaker who has recently option my story \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Shooting_Evil.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shooting Evil<\/a>\u201d for adaptation as a short film. Others are there as well. Too many to mention. We\u2019re sharing the bill. She\u2019ll be reading an excerpt from her forthcoming novel. I\u2019ve selected three stories from <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.com\/1934571016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Visions<\/em><\/a>. Between the two of us, we have what seems a nice mix planned for the evening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Cohost <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matthewkressel.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matthew Kressel<\/a> kicks things off with the announcement of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bKVKBcNA4J8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kickstarter campaign<\/a> to help underwrite the continuation of the series. He also shares a list of upcoming readers, including <a href=\"http:\/\/libbabray.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Libba Bray<\/a>, <a href=\"Lucius Shepard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lucius Shepard<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimkelly.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Patrick Kelley<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thomas_F._Monteleone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas F. Monteleone<\/a>. The stories I\u2019ve selected are \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Step_On_A_Crack.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Step on a Crack<\/a>,\u201d \u201cPrime Time!\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Echoes.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Echoes<\/a>.\u201d I plan to deliver each from memory, a mode of presentation that harkens back to the roots of storytelling. Think Homer or the <em>Beowulf<\/em> poet, traveling scops who carried their works in their heads and presented their texts live without reliance on the printed page. I\u2019ve blogged about this technique elsewhere, particularly in <a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/2011\/06\/25\/scop101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scop 101<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The stories are a bit like songs. They\u2019re longer, of course. And they don\u2019t employ rhyme. But each has a vocal rhythm that facilitates memorization. The audience is wonderfully receptive, and the performance goes well.<a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Sarah-Langan-at-KGB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3398 alignright\" alt=\"Sarah Langan at KGB\" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Sarah-Langan-at-KGB.jpg\" width=\"213\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Sarah-Langan-at-KGB.jpg 333w, https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Sarah-Langan-at-KGB-282x300.jpg 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After a break, during which Will Horner does brisk business at the Fantasist book display, Ellen introduces Sarah \u2013 the three-time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.horror.org\/stokers.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bram Stoker<\/a> winner whom the <em>New York Times<\/em> has referred to as one of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/10\/26\/books\/review\/Rafferty-t.html?pagewanted=1&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelley\u2019s Daughters<\/a>,\u201d a strong writer of contemporary horror who carries on the groundbreaking work started by Mary Shelley.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sarah reads the first chapter from <em>The Clinic<\/em>, and it\u2019s clear from the delivery that she has another Stoker contender in the works.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The reading leaves us all eager for the book\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/will-meesh-heather3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3405\" alt=\"will meesh heather3\" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/will-meesh-heather3.jpg\" width=\"303\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a>After the readings, about 20 of us head out to dinner at the Grand Sichuan Restaurant in St. Mark\u2019s Place, after which Ginny and I make our way back to our Midtown digs. Special thanks goes out to our New York friend for getting us through the subway turnstiles and showing us the way. We never would have made it without them!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our original plans were to stay in the city one more day, but a gig at another nightspot \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rileyspourhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riley\u2019s Pour House<\/a> in Pittsburgh \u2013 sends us packing in the morning.
