This is cause for celebration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here&#8217;s the press release from Space Wreck:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>In 1984, UK-born Martin Springett\u2014an accomplished musician and illustrator who had produced comics for the legendary Heavy Metal magazine and designed and illustrated record covers for Columbia\u2014was commissioned to illustrate the cover of <\/em>The Summer Tree<em> by Guy Gavriel Kay, the first novel of the acclaimed <\/em>Fionavar Tapestry Trilogy<em>. A classic of fantasy literature, the trilogy is beloved worldwide, and it launched Springett to international fantasy illustration fame.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Springett-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-8719\" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Springett-3-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Springett (3)\" width=\"177\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Springett-3-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Springett-3.jpg 432w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 177px) 100vw, 177px\" \/><\/a>In 1983, Springett is living in Toronto and releases his own album: <\/em>The Gardening Club<em>. A musically rich and diverse album, <\/em>The Gardening Club<em>\u00a0combined King Crimson-like complexity, Canterbury scene-infused whimsy, and a strong pop sensibility, but in the shadow of new wave it was the right album, at the wrong time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>In 2016, <\/em>The Gardening Club<em> will be revitalized with a trilogy of releases: a deluxe repackaged version of the original LP, an EP filled with previously unreleased songs and a brand new companion graphic novel filled with Springett\u2019s signature lush, oneiric imagery, wonderful wordplay and decidedly English brand of the fantastic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/511ZxU2WmIL._SS280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-8737\" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/511ZxU2WmIL._SS280.jpg\" alt=\"511ZxU2WmIL._SS280\" width=\"296\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/511ZxU2WmIL._SS280.jpg 280w, https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/511ZxU2WmIL._SS280-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;ve had the pleasure\u00a0of jamming with Martin at a number of World Fantasy Cons. First in Toronto in 2012 and most recently in D.C. last year, where we were joined by Sarah Pinsker, F. Paul Wilson, and others. The video was directed by Phillip Kates, who went on to direct videos featuring Blue Rodeo, Jeff Healey, and Sarah McLachlan. Great stuff!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At any rate, the good news is that Martin Springett has more than enough music\u00a0out there to fill the silence until Space Wreck reissues <em>The Garden Club<\/em> next year.
