Emerson said something like that once.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He might have been talking about screenwriting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The path that &#8220;Traumatic Descent&#8221; (a.k.a. &#8220;This Way to Egress&#8221;) has taken on its way to the screen\u00a0is the subject of a\u00a0newspaper article in a recent issue of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/triblive.com\/news\/neighborhoods\/sewickley\/9832133-74\/connolly-teacher-writing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pittsburgh Tribune-Review<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On the whole, the paper provides a good summary of the details, although\u00a0it does\u00a0suggest that &#8220;TD&#8221; was\u00a0under option for a quarter century. That&#8217;s not <em>exactly\u00a0<\/em>true, even if\u00a0it has sometimes seemed that way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-9159 \" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Borderlands-3-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Borderlands 3 cropped\" width=\"177\" height=\"273\" \/>The story first appeared in the hardbound, limited-edition of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.com\/B00JGGLMHY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Borderlands 3<\/a><\/em> in the early 90s,\u00a0but it wasn&#8217;t until 2000 that a young filmmaker found it reprinted in a mass-market paperback in London. That was the beginning of the journey&#8211;a seventeen-year trek through the at-times fascinating circles of development hell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And now it appears the\u00a0trek is finally\u00a0leading somewhere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Earlier this fall, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1720541\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Slade<\/a> and I submitted our revised script for &#8220;This Way to Egress&#8221; to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mickgarrisinterviews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mick Garris<\/a>, who has partnered with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gooddeedentertainment.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Good Deed Entertainment<\/a> to produce the story\u00a0as part of a feature film titled <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dreadcentral.com\/news\/138390\/more-details-on-mick-garris-nightmare-cinema\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nightmare Cinema<\/a><\/em>. A flurry of announcements followed our completion of the script, culminating (for the moment) with the article in the <em>Trib<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9172\" src=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/connolly-1993-285x300.jpg\" alt=\"connolly 1993\" width=\"157\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/connolly-1993-285x300.jpg 285w, https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/connolly-1993.jpg 459w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 157px) 100vw, 157px\" \/>You&#8217;ll find links to some of those earlier announcements at the blog post &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencecconnolly.com\/archive\/2015\/12\/11\/mick-garris-on-nightmare-cinemahorror-films-are-good-for-you\/\">Horror Films are Good for You<\/a>,&#8221; while\u00a0the full text of the newspaper article is available at the <em>Trib<\/em>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/triblive.com\/news\/neighborhoods\/sewickley\/9832133-74\/connolly-teacher-writing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Interestingly, the\u00a0<em>Trib<\/em>\u00a0also published a strong review of &#8220;Traumatic Descent&#8221; when <em>Borderlands 3<\/em> first came out 23 years ago. I trust the comparison suggests that the ensuing years have\u00a0treated me fairly. At any rate, it looks as if I&#8217;ve been keeping busy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ll post updates about the film as they come available.
