I saw Lawrence Connolly do a one-man performance called “Songs of the Horror Writer” equipped with nothing but a guitar and a microphone. He sang songs about Lizzie Borden and insects and crimes of passion…and everybody loved it. It was a hilarious subversion of the con’s filk programming.
— Michael A. Arnzen
Michael Arnzen made those comments on The Dream People’s Forum after catching my Songs of the Horror Writer show a few years ago at Confluence. The performance has grown since then, shifting and morphing, never the same twice, and always more fun than a bucket of zombies.
In 2010, I took the show to Brighton, performing it at The Royal Albion for Reggie Oliver’s Phantom Gaslight Music Hall (which he presented in association with that year’s World Horror Convention). That was a grand time!
This weekend I’ll be bringing the show home to Horror Realm in Pittsburgh, where I’ll be sharing the bill with former Chiller Theatre host Bill Cardille and an diverse assortment of actors, filmmakers, artists, and writers. The weekend will also feature musical performances by singer songwriter Tiffany Apan and the band The Devilz in the Detailz.
Songs of the Horror Writer goes live on Saturday afternoon, from 1:30-2:30, in the Harrisburg Room of the Crowne Plaza, Pittsburgh South. Hope to see you there!
